Yungdrung Koleg stupa at Dunai, Dolpo.
The construction of a stupa was one of Geshe Nyima
Kunkyap’s one of dreams. The name of the stupa is Yungdrung Kodleg
stupa. The construction was planned since 2005 for the Dolpo people
as an object of worship and to benefit of all sentient being and
particularly for the peace in Dolpo and Nepal
The land for the construction of
stupa was donated by Mr. Laxmi sharma and his wife Lila Kumari. They
have assured Geshe Muring Nyima to donate above land for the
construction of Bonpo Monastery few years ago. The donated land has
its own importance as it was blessed by the past bonpo master Lama
Melha. However, due to the time constraints the project couldn't
materialize. In 1998 the couple has actually donated the 10 Ropanis
of land for the purpose. Ninety-seven years old Mr. Laxmi sharma is
one of the most dedicated and revered person in the region. He is
the one who has created Dolpo district and was the first Member of
parliament from Dolpo.
On 4th October 2005, preliminary
ritual was performed for the construction of stupa followed by
exorcism rituals by the Monks and tantrics of various bon
monasteries of Dolpo from 19th to 25th December 2005 for seven days.
The ritual of insertion of mantras in stupa and good fortune was
also performed and the 36 feet stupa was formally completed on 28th
November 2006 with the generous assistance from Geshe Nyima kunkyap,
Mr Leon and Mrs Victoria from Russia, Lama Tenzin wangyal Rinpoche
and his American and Mexican deciples.
The elaborated consecration of the
stupa was done from 29th November 2006 to 3rd December 2006 for five
days. On the first day of inaugural celebration, the head of the
district Honorable C.D.O. was invited as a chief guest along with
many govt. dignitaries. The day was also officially declared holiday
for the govt. offices and schools for the purpose. Geshe Nyima
Kunkap Rinpoche kicked off the program with the introductory speech.
Thereafter, the CDO has inaugurated the stupa and presided over the
gathering of 10,000 people from various regions of Dolpo. The people
have also got an opportunity to witnessed Bonpo Mask dance, songs
and dance by schools children and eminent Nepali artists. Various
Nepali media like Kantipur TV, Nepal TV and Radio Nepal were also
present and telecast the grand celebration live.
On the last day of the inaugural
celebration, Geshe Nyima Kunkyap and Geshe Tenzin Nyima Woser have
given long life initiation to the gathering. After the lunch, The
celebration was concluded with a big bang with breath taking
performance once again by the eminent singers and the school
children.
On 6th December 2006 the prominent persons of
Dolpo and members of Dolpo Bon Society have met to chalk out the
future programs for the development of Dolpo region and particularly
of Dolpo Bon Society.
